Sarah remembered someone once say, “Carrots are good for your vision.” He was late again. Often, answering the phone, there was only dead air. Other nights, she smelled perfume on his coat. Much good they’ve done me, she thought, an empty chair before her. She lifted a carrot from her plate and took a bite.
